Wolf Moon Haiku by Lorraine Riess

Writer's picture: BML StaffBML Staff

Wolf Moon Haiku

I

Wolf moon howls aloud

in hunger over meadows

hunting a warm heart.

II

Ravenous tongue laps

the field, a glistening cloak

to reflect the stars.

III

Yellow old teeth honed

smooth as a pickaxe handle

steel blades carve the air.

IV

His breath mists the lake

rodents quell their shuffling

the snowy owl stills.

V

From his withers spill

the hair of bare black branches

lining the west ridge.

VI

Wolf light streams through blinds

my palms to the cold window

an offer of warmth.
