Unseasonal weather is fooling our bulbs!

Writer's picture: Robbie MarshallRobbie Marshall

Oh my poor daffodils. They’re in for a bit of a shock later this week.

Anyone wonder why daffodils spread but tulips don’t? Daffodils are poisonous so the critters won’t touch them while tulips are a tasty snack. During the Civil War, soldiers kept daffodil bulbs on them in case of a mortal wound. Eating the bulb hastened death while lessening the suffering. Didn’t mean to get all maudlin, I just find that historical tidbit so interesting.
