The blue wood aster

Today, we deviate from dahlia photos to bring you the blue wood aster. It is a native. Formerly known as Aster cordifolius, now recategorized Symphyotrichum cordifolium (because botanists like to keep things exciting😉). Early leaves are heart shaped but die back by the time the flowers emerge. It is self seeding. If pruned, it can be groomed to be bushy, otherwise it can grow to 3’ tall. If you look closely at the bottom right, it appears there is a nasty cucumber beetle hiding in it.
