Rosa rugosa [Beach rose]

Writer's picture: Robbie MarshallRobbie Marshall

Beach rose or Rosa rugosa. It is capable of surviving in sand, so a tough plant. It is native to Asia but the rose hips do provide food for birds and critters. The name rugosa comes from “rugose” or wrinkled as the leaves are quite crinkly. And do not grab the stems because you’ll probably think you came out on the bad end of a porcupine encounter - lots and lots of thorns!
