Plant Label Sticks

These are the plant label spikes that Jenny whittles and burns out of sticks. We will have bundles for sale in our plant and gardening sales starting in May...

"Thinking of spring with this photo. These are made from locust suckers, about 5/8-3/4” diameter. I chiseled the ends into points with my terrifying wood carving knife(always wear Kevlar gloves) and burned the letters in with a soldering iron (that thing gets hot!). But it’s a fun craft as I get to cut and legally burn stuff. Ha! These suckers although young, dried really hard, so it takes a little effort to get the points going. The tree itself came down this fall which turned out to be a good thing as it was rotten and full of carpenter ants. But it has a will to live, hence the suckers. I’m also using choke cherry and black walnut saplings as our yard is a nursery for those trees."

"Shavings and wood chips from making those plant spikes. Can you tell the difference between the locust and the cherry? Gosh the cherry was hard!"
