Orchid Watch 2021

] I don’t have a good climate or space for orchids so a bloom is very exciting. I do have the nice filtered light, but the air is too dry. I try to remember to water once a week but they should get misted as well. But orchids are great survivors and while considered delicate can actually be quite tough. They will make new little plants off of an old bloom stalk as a means of survival. Do not cut the straggly old roots as that can introduce infection. Unless you have an air plant, keep orchid bark around the roots, not packed, but close, in order to keep in moisture but without making the roots soggy.

] The orchid is coming along. Looks like I’ll only get three blooms, but I’ll take it. I forget which kind of orchid it is. Once it blooms I’ll be able to tell. Most likely it’s a phalaenopsis- the ubiquitous grocery store/Home Depot orchid. It’s resilient and forgiving of my benign neglect.

] Almost there!

] Here she is. Pretty sure it’s a phalaenopsis, your standard grocery store orchid. But it blooms so it’s a keeper!

] I ended up with 3 blooms.
