1. Not the clearest photo of these two. Birds aren’t cooperative and I’m shooting through a cat nose-printed window.
Chickadees and tufted titmice choose their seed then take it to a nearby hard surface, usually the lilac bush, and whack the dickens out of the shell to get at the seed. For the chickadee, this is the sunflower seed. This requires some patience as the bigger seeds migrate to the top of the heap inside the feeder and the little guy has to hope some filter down. Titmice are fun to watch because they walk headfirst down the post.
