Evergreens

The White pine- the only pine I can easily identify. The needles are 3-5” long and grow in bundles of five. They are soft and flexible and the bundles make it easy to identify. This is a tree that can get really tall as we all probably know from keeping a sharp eye on them during the wind storms.

Arborvitae or Thuja. It makes for a good windbreak and privacy screen. It can grow 3’/year and attain heights of 50-60’. We have a row between our house and the neighbor’s that is quite tall. I’ve noticed that during the high winds they don’t sway much or react much. This provides some comfort that we won’t wake up to a giant bush-tree through the roof!

It’s easily identified by the flat scaly sprays which are similar to cedars as they are in the same family.
